MAMARONECK, NY (May 28, 2024) — A New Rochelle man is facing drug-related charges after a K-9 Unit sniffed out what police say were narcotics in his vehicle
On May 23, 2024, at approximately 10:01 PM, an officer assigned to the Community Services Division observed a motorist driving aggressively and following too closely to another vehicle. The officer initiated a traffic stop in the 400 block of Mamaroneck Avenue with Officer Colasacco and his K9 partner IKE assisting.
Upon interviewing the driver, Officer Colasacco suspected the driver to be under the influence of narcotics and subsequently deployed his K9 partner IKE, who indicated to the presence of narcotics.
A search of the interior of the vehicle was performed and officers located approximately 16.8 grams of a white powdery substance,
believed to be cocaine. The defendant was placed under arrest, and transported to Police Headquarters where standardized field sobriety tests were conducted. Based on the officer’s observations, a certified DRE (Drug
Recognition Expert) was requested and responded from the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.
The DRE Officer determined that the defendant was under the influence of one or more narcotics.

Lee M. Mendes, 59, of New Rochelle, NY
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance – 5, a D-Felony
- Driving While Ability Impaired (Drugs), an unclassified Misdemeanor.
Due to the defendant being under the influence of narcotics, he was transported to a local
hospital for treatment and released on an appearance ticket, pending a future court date.
