Rye Mahjong Players Tip Rye Cops on Long Island Man Who Entered Rye Home, Police Say

RYE, NY (December 5, 2024) — On November 4, 2024, the City of Rye Police Department was notified by a resident of Louden Woods of a male attempting to enter her residence at approximately 2:30 pm. A canvass of the area was immediately conducted, as well as a video canvass. An image of a male was obtained, and the investigation continued.

At 6:25 pm an alert group of women playing mahjong observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of North Street and The Ives. A subsequent investigation by Rye Police Officers confirmed that the vehicle in question had been reported stolen out of Malverne, New York earlier in the day. A party standing outside the vehicle was taken into custody by responding units.

Allen Jose Corona was found in possession of the stolen vehicle’s keys, 50 pills in an unmarked package, a screwdriver, and a razor scraping tool. Corona was also identified as the suspicious party attempting to enter the residence in Louden Woods earlier.

Corona was arrested without incident.

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property — 4, an E felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance — 7, a Class A misdemeanor
  • Possession of Burglary Tools, a Class A misdemeanor
  • Criminal Trespassing — 3, a Class B misdemeanor

Corona was turned over to Detectives from the Nassau County Police Department to face additional charges there. Corona is due back in Rye City Court on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 9:00 am.
