NEW ROCHELLE, NY (February 27, 2026) — The Iona University men’s basketball team rolled to an 80-53 victory over Rider on Senior Night at the Hynes Center on Friday, never trailing en route to a decisive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win.
Junior guard Kosy Akametu led the Gaels with 22 points and six rebounds, shooting 7-for-11 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Denver Anglin added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and contributed four rebounds and three assists, while Toby Harris chipped in 12 points and six boards. CJ Anthony directed the Iona offense with 10 points, six assists and two steals.

Before tipoff, Iona honored its graduate student-athletes — CJ Anthony, Toby Harris and Keshawn Williams — along with graduate assistants Bobby Gerity and Jules Le Jamtel and senior content creators Will Quincy and Elizabeth Riccio for their contributions to the program.
Iona built a 30-28 halftime lead and never relinquished control, opening the second half with a 10-0 run and later extending the advantage to a 25-point lead late in the game. The Gaels shot 48.1% from the field and 46.4% from three-point range, while limiting Rider to 30.8% shooting and 17.4% from beyond the arc.
For Rider, Zion Cruz led all scorers with 25 points and added three steals. Flash Burton scored 13 points with five rebounds and four steals, and Caleb Smith finished with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Gaels (17-13, 9-10 MAAC) will travel to face Manhattan in their regular season finale Sunday, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
