NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 2, 2026) — The New Rochelle Public Library Board has received unanimous approval from the New Rochelle School District to present a $55 million bond to voters. The proposal will be on the ballot during the May 19 school and library board and budget vote.
The bond aims to support a comprehensive, multi-year plan to modernize the Library, which has not been renovated since it was built in 1979. The proposed updates include improvements to infrastructure, meeting spaces, and the creation of functional areas for reading, learning, and gathering.
Lucille Renwick, President of the Library Board, expressed gratitude for the school district’s support, stating, “A modernized library with community spaces, improved infrastructure and overall building is so needed for all of New Rochelle. Now, we will work to ensure that New Rochelleans see that vision as well when they go to vote on May 19.”
