LARCHMONT, NY (April 20, 2026) — The New Rochelle Fire Department hockey team defeated the Yonkers Fire Department 7–6 at Hommocks Ice Arena in Larchmont during the Captain Andy DiMaggio Annual Charity Hockey Game, with proceeds benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
According to a post by the New Rochelle Fire Department, the game marked the first time New Rochelle FD Hockey won the annual matchup, described as a “hard fought game.”

The event, held at Hommocks Ice Arena, is named in honor of Captain Andy DiMaggio, a longtime New Rochelle firefighter previously reported on by Talk of the Sound following his death. The annual game serves as a memorial tribute, keeping his name associated with the department through a charitable event involving fellow first responders.
DiMaggio’s legacy has been recognized locally in prior honors and commemorations, reflecting his service within the department and the broader community. The charity game continues that recognition by bringing together firefighters in his name while raising funds for a related cause.
The department said the game featured honorary coach Ron Greschner, a former New York Rangers player.

“Great day yesterday for the Captain Andy DiMaggio Annual Charity Hockey game,” the department wrote, adding that “the real winners were the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, who received all proceeds.”
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is a nonprofit established in 2001 to honor FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who was killed during the September 11 attacks after running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center to assist others.
The foundation supports first responders, military personnel and their families, including providing mortgage-free homes to families of fallen first responders and veterans and building specially adapted homes for those injured in the line of duty.
Fire departments and first responder organizations frequently support the foundation because of its mission to honor those who have died or been injured in service, aligning with the professional and personal connections shared across emergency services.
The annual matchup between New Rochelle and Yonkers firefighters combines competition with fundraising, with proceeds directed to the foundation as part of the department’s charitable efforts.
