NORTHRIDGE, CA – The Iona College softball team dropped its first two games at the CSUN Tournament Friday at Matador Diamond. The Gaels fell to Colorado State 6-0 in the opener before suffering a 9-1 setback to Bryant in the second game.
In the first game of the day, the Rams plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning before adding three more in the second frame. Colorado State scored its final two runs in the sixth inning.
Freshman Tori Danner collected two of Iona’s three hits in the contest. Junior Jordan Courage (0-3) took the loss in the circle for Iona, allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits and five walks in five innings.
In the nightcap, a home run by Bryant’s Elle Madsen scored two runs in the first inning, before the Bulldogs had one run come across in both the second and third innings.
Iona scored its first run of the day in the top of the third frame when senior Allison Hand drove in sophomore Kelsey Long with a sacrifice fly to center.
Bryant added two runs in the fourth before ending the contest with three more in the bottom of the fifth.
Iona’s Jessica Harkness (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits and five walks. Courage allowed five runs, four earned, on five hits and seven walks over 2.1 innings of relief.
The Gaels face Bryant in a rematch Saturday at 2:30 pm.
