NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two men were arrested Wednesday after one man shot another man at the Heritage Homes in New Rochelle. The shooting victim was later found to be in criminal possession of a handgun.

Richard Faulkner, aged 35 of New Rochelle, was charged with Assault — First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon — Second Degree and Reckless Endangerment — First Degree.

Tairus White-Edney, age 20, of New Rochelle was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon Second Degree-Loaded Firearm. A .380 handgun was recovered from his residence.

Police believe Faulkner fired at an unknown target on Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard, at which time a round struck White-Edney in the foot. It does not appear that Edney was the intended target.

White-Edney walked into Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, NY with a gunshot wound to his foot. He advised New York Police Department officers that he had been shot in New Rochelle.

Talk of the Sound received a report of shots fired in the area of Heritage Homes and Horton Avenue at 10:07 p.m. Driving along Jacquetta Cole Street and Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard through Heritage Homes soon after there were about 20 people standing near the intersection of Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard and Horton Avenue, a hundred yards from a shooting earlier in the day. Seeing no police response, we left the area at 10:35 a.m.

At approximately 10:42 p.m., NYPD contacted the New Rochelle Police Department. New Rochelle Police Detectives responded to Jacobi Hospital.

New Rochelle Police Officers and Detectives responded to the area of the shooting, Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard & Jacquetta Cole Street, where three spent shell casings were recovered.

Police determined Faulkner was the shooter. He was taken into custody without further incident.

It was the second shooting in the neighborhood on the same day.

Earlier in the day, New Rochelle Police arrested Daniel Houghton, aged 38, of New Rochelle after he shot his stepfather in the forearm on the second floor of 92 Horton Avenue. Houghton was located and apprehended three hours later at 505 South Second Avenue in Mount Vernon, NY. He is charged with Attempted Murder.
