MAMARONECK, NY — A man was arrested Monday after brandishing a knife and threatening to shoot up a local business.

On May 30, at approximately 2:59 p.m., Village of Mamaroneck Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a male brandishing a knife inside of a local business with patrons running from the scene.

Officers responded to the scene, located, and detained a male matching the description given by the callers. Officers conducted a search of the area and located an approximate 6″ diving/fishing knife wrapped in a bandanna, discarded under a parked car.

Multiple witnesses then positively identified the detained man as the person who had brandished the knife and he was subsequently placed under arrest. Witnesses also confirmed the recovered knife was the one used by the male.

Detectives responded to conduct a further investigation and learned that while in the store, the suspect allegedly stated “he would shoot up the place” while brandishing the knife.

Martinez was arraigned in Village of Mamaroneck Court and was remanded to the Westchester County Jail, pending a future court date.

No civilians or police officers were injured in this incident.
