WHITE PLAINS, NY (October 23, 2026) — A Westchester County jury has convicted a Georgia man of murder and weapons charges in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend inside her New Rochelle apartment in August 2024, Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced.

Robert Wooten, 30, of Atlanta, Georgia, was found guilty of Murder in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, all felonies, following a jury trial before Westchester County Court Judge George Fufidio. Wooten remains held without bail at the Westchester County Jail pending sentencing and faces up to 25 years to life in state prison.

According to prosecutors, Wooten fatally shot his girlfriend, Meisha Williams, 30, during a confrontation inside the bathroom of her Clinton Place apartment in New Rochelle on Aug. 24, 2024. Williams was shot five times, including twice in the back. Friends subsequently discovered her body and notified police, prompting an investigation that led authorities to track Wooten’s vehicle to Jamaica, Queens, where he was arrested hours after the shooting.

During his trial, Wooten maintained that he acted in self-defense and testified that he disposed of the firearm in a sewer. The murder weapon was never recovered. Court records show Wooten pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, but the jury rejected his defense and convicted him of murder and multiple weapons offenses. Other charges were dismissed.

Wooten was represented by defense attorney Angelo Gerard MacDonald through Westchester County’s assigned counsel program. Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Jones and Ned McLoughlin prosecuted the case before Judge Fufidio.

The New Rochelle Police Department led the investigation, with assistance from the New York City Police Department, the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force and other law enforcement agencies. Cacace praised the jury, investigators and prosecution team for their work in securing the conviction.

Wooten remains in custody awaiting sentencing.
